Intent Statement

Exam Board: OCR (Cambridge Nationals) Sports Studies, OCR (Cambridge Nationals) Health and Social

The PE department aims to develops pupils’ competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school. Pupils should expect to be physically active for sustained periods by engaging in both competitive and non-competitive activities. PE will support pupils physical and mental well-being and social skills such as teamwork, self-confidence, fairness and respect for others. It will give pupils the confidence to engage in competitive sport and the opportunity to analyse their own and others performances. Pupils will be given the opportunity to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and instil a passion for further extra-curricular activity outside of school. They will develop a healthy attitude to their lifestyle as young adults.

The subject is open to all learners and is planned to allow all pupils the opportunity to enjoy PE and lead healthy, active lives. Lessons are taught with consideration to the wide range of abilities, genders and needs. It will build on pupils prior learning and experiences based around the three pillars of progression - motor competence, knowledge of rules, strategies and tactics and healthy participation. Long term we would hope that through the study of PE/Sport, pupils can pursue a sporting pathway into higher education or within the sport and leisure industry.
