Intent Statement

Exam Board: Edexcel

The Mathematics curriculum focusses on the acquisition of knowledge and skills within the following key areas: Number, Algebra, Ratio, Proportion & rates of change, Geometry and measures, Probability and Statistics. The spiralling curriculum design allows students to develop conceptual understanding with the ability to recall and apply knowledge accurately. The intention of the curriculum is to enable pupils to become fluent in mathematics, empowering them to reason mathematically and solve problems.

The curriculum also provides opportunities for students to develop an appreciation for mathematics and its impact on the world around is. We aim to instil a passion for mathematics and a curiosity in lessons which develops the character of our pupils.

Creating a culture of high aspirations through ensuring that learning is accessible to all students allows students to make connections between prior and new learning and further develop their understanding. Our curriculum recognises the importance of literacy and spoken language, developing students’ mathematical vocabulary through high quality learning experiences.

Our intention is to provide a learning experience for all pupils that enables each of them to access the full breath of the curriculum, deep rooted in our school values of empowerment, inspiration, love and joy.
