Curriculum Statement

We strive to provide a fully inclusive curriculum that is designed to empower and inspire learners with powerful knowledge, foster a love of learning, strength of character and deepen faith and joy, In order to do this, our learners are cared for in an environment built on mutual respect, in which they are able to learn and to be taught by knowledgeable and dedicated teachers. This ensures that all of our learners individual needs are met in such a way that they leave school as mature, successful and confident individuals who can make a positive contribution to society, equipping them with the keys to open doors and the courage to feel they can open them. In doing so, we fulfil our mission "I have come so that they have life and live it to the full" (John 10:10).

Our curriculum is designed to recognise prior learning and is coherently sequenced to ensure that learners are rich in knowledge, skills and values to become life-long learners. We deliver the National Curriculum in a way which is appropriate to our city, our area, our school and our planet. It is a curriculum which sets in place firm foundations to promote learning and self-esteem of the learner. Every child is recognised as a unique individual and we welcome differences within our community. We provide enhancement opportunities to engage learning and believe that childhood should be a happy, safe, investigative and enquiring time in our lives.

Furthermore, the curriculum at SEACA has been carefully designed to be fully compliant with the expectations set out in the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 ensuring that it is accessible for those with disabilities and / or special educational needs. This has been achieved in a number of ways; firstly, through the standards and aims set out in the secondary National Curriculum framework. Secondly, through the specialist provisions and interventions provided by the team of staff within 'The Zone' at SEACA. These aims are also met across all subject areas within their curriculum planning, ensuring all pupils are taught a curriculum to equip them with the knowledge and skills to make progress and through the co-curricular offer across school, including the trips, visits and experiences pupils within SEACA are able to choose from. In addition to this, pupils are supported through the personal development curriculum at SEACA. This is delivered through form time as well as discrete timetabled lessons for each year group.
